What a great final day of the East of Scotland Inter County Matches!

We woke up to lightish wind (if there is such a thing at Gullane!) and sunshine, so by far the best conditions over the three days.  Some stripped off a layer or two, but I wasn’t brave enough to do so!

Our caddies arrived early and Michaela and Mini Mac were excited to get in their bags to watch the morning matches.

We had a great start over the initial two days but we still had everything to play for as we took on East Lothian and Fife took on Stirling and Clackmannan.  We wanted to win today today and all the players were up bright and early and ready for the challenge as they headed out for the morning foursomes. The experienced duo of Karen Marshall and Karen Ferguson-Snedden (K2 😉) took on the young Ellie Bent and Kirsten Ireland and brought home a 4&3 win.  The winning duo of Freya Constable and Molly Nicholson did it again beating Jill McNicoll and Louise Martin 3&2.

The final foursomes pairing was Rachael Livingstone and Megan Fallon who beat Annie Laird and Mary Lou Watkins 4&2, which included an wonderful eagle from Rachael on the 7th – high fives to celebrate her fantastic shot.  Wonderful matches played in great spirits.

Morning result: 3-0.

We headed into the afternoon matches in a strong position only requiring a win in two matches to win the match points and the Jamboree.  However, we wanted to deliver another strong win and that we did with each match demonstrating pure class and a joy to watch.

Kate McIntosh beat beat Ellie Bent 5&4

Karen Marshall beat Louise Martin 6&5

Rachael Livingstone beat Annie Laird 4&3

Molly Nicholson lost to Jill McNicoll 1up

Megan Fallon beat Kirsten Ireland 4&2

Freya Constable beat Ann Sewell 6&5 achieving 6 straight wins in 6 matches ! Congratulations Freya!

Afternoon Result: 5-1

Overall result: Midlothian 8 East Lothian 1

Midlothian were out right winners on 6 match points (22 game points out of the 27 available). Second was Stirling & Clackmannanshire with 4 match points (14 game points), third was Fife with 2 match points (11 game points) and fourth East Lothian with 0 match points (7 game points).  Results over the three days can be viewed on East Lothian County’s website here.

Incredible performance from Team Midlothian!

What a fantastic few days Captaining this amazing Midlothian Team – I am so incredibly proud of what they have achieved in very tough conditions. Each and every one of the team delivered wonderful performances – pure class in action and great team spirit, aided by amazing caddies who delivered above and beyond for their players.

All of the Teams were amazingly supportive of each other, creating a fun but a competitive environment with all matches splayed in great team spirit.

Grateful thanks to East Lothian Captain, Frances Hall and all her Team for hosting a very successful event and to Gullane GC, for courtesy of the course and especially the pro shop, bar and catering staff, who were first class throughout.  Thanks also to Stirling and Clackmannanshire Captain, Laura Bissett and Fife Captain, Susie Robertson.

I want to especially thank Muriel Gilligan and Elaine Lumsden, who supported me with the caddy arrangements. I couldn’t have done it all without the incredible support of our Selector, Linda Wemyss, who gives her time so freely, bringing her knowledge and good judgment to discussions, to Kate McIntosh who also supported selection, and our President Margaret Ferguson, who brings her experience and wisdom, as she treads the fairways in support of us all.  Huge thanks to our incredible team for their talent and passion for Midlothian, and their ability to dig deep when it’s needed – they never cease to amaze me! To the wonderful support of our caddy volunteers across the three days – your support to the County and especially the players is greatly appreciated and you add significantly to the occasion. Today’s caddies were: Kate Rorke, Pat Wood, Angela Hughes, Sandra Stanton, Anne Hanson, Ailsa Cackett, Linda Caine, Elaine Lumsden and Yvonne Wilson.

And finally, the unwavering support of our members who came to support us and those who were eager to follow what was happening.

Here’s to the County Finals in September at Hilton Park!
