What a great start to the season and our first competition as 96 ladies arrived to compete in the Spring Meeting and Championship Qualifier.  As the players arrived at Turnhouse GC, it was a cold and frosty morning 🥶 but the sun soon brought the greens back to life and the day remained bright throughout with very little wind, a little chilly but really, the perfect conditions for our Spring Meeting – happy Captain 😊.

The Course was in great condition for this time of year, and looked so inviting in the Spring sunshine.  A big thank you to the Greenkeeping team at Turnhouse for doing a fantastic job in getting the course prepared before our arrival. The greens were still a little bumpy at times but have recovered well after the challenging winter weather greenskeepers have faced this year.

Quite a few of our members were playing the course for the first time and very much enjoyed the experience – wait until they play it in the wind!

As you are aware, we made the decision not to use the new Scottish Golf App, as we didn’t feel it was operating well enough to ensure the success of this important event. As a result, David Gemmell, Turnhouse General Manager, and his Team, set up the competition as an open for us on their ClubV1 system. David provided excellent support on the day and we are extremely grateful to him. The impact of not using the App for the County, is a much heavier administrative role checking cards, and verifying the results, so we are keen to return to using the App, once we feel confident of a good user experience.

The Clubhouse was well prepared and welcoming and the catering on offer provided some players with a tasty treat after their golf.  Grateful thanks go to the whole team at Turnhouse GC for hosting, providing courtesy of the course, and looking after us so well.  In recognition of the generosity of the Club we will be making a donation to their women/girls development fund.

We also couldn’t run our events without the help of our volunteers on the check-in desk. So a huge thank you to Secretary, Maureen Joyce, President Margaret Fergusson, Turnhouse members, Pat Wood and Ros Carnegie for all their time and support, it is very much appreciated 🤩

Well done and congratulations to all the players who won a placing in the Spring Meeting and to the Championship qualifiers for the A and B Championship, which will take place at Turnhouse GC on Saturday 29th April and Sunday 30th April with tee times from 11:00 and 15:30 both days. The top qualifier of the day goes to Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) with a fantastic score of scratch 74. Well done Louise 👏👏
