Midlothian hosted the 2023 match against the Scottish Veteran Ladies Golf Association team at the Royal Burgess Golf Society on Sunday 14th May. The weather co-operated as despite initially a forecast for rain it stayed dry with occasional glimpses of the sun.
The team comprised 8 players playing foursomes.
Midlothian team:
Match 1: Karen Ferguson-Snedden and Meghan Fallon
Match 2: Caroline Steedman and Kate Rorke
Match 3: Hilary Laughland and Grace Cannon
Match 4: Ailsa Cackette and Emma Morrison
The matches were played in great spirit with sportsmanlike behaviour and a friendly rivalry and some excellent golf on display. All of the matches went to the 18th hole with two being halved. Our team was just pipped to the post in the other two.
Thank you to captain Fiona De Vries and the Scottish Vets team for a great match. Thanks are also due to the Royal Burgess Golf Society for providing courtesy of the course which was in excellent condition especially considering the difficulties that greenkeeping teams have encountered with our cold spring dominated by easterly winds. Reviving soup and sandwiches after the match were gratefully received by all – thanks to the caterers.
We look forward to a return match next year.
Overall match result was a 3-1 win for SVLGA with individual match results as follows:

Match 3 Hilary Laughland and Grace Cannon v Lorna McKinley and Wendy Nicholson lost 2 down
