Gail Joughin has been MCLGA Vice Captain since November 2018 but unfortunately due to an ongoing issue with her back, she does not currently feel fit enough to carry on the role of Vice Captain leading into 2 years as Captain. As a result of this Gail has chosen to step down as Vice Captain.

On behalf of the Midlothian membership, I would like to extend our thanks to Gail for everything she has done during her Vice years. Gail has not only been a tremendous support to myself she has been extremely active helping create our Terms of Competitions for the web site, assisting with updating our Constitution and supporting the general running of the County for and on behalf of the Membership. We would like to wish Gail every success with the recovery of her back.

I made a proposal to the MCLGA Committee to co-opt Isla McCrone from Turnhouse GC as MCLGA Vice Captain for the remainder of this year. The Committee accepted this proposal. As it is only for the remainder of this year, Isla would then be proposed for election by the membership as Captain of MCLGA at the November 2020 AGM.

Isla has been involved with golf committees before and is a Past Lady Captain of Turnhouse GC. She has been a member of Turnhouse since taking up golf in her late twenties. She is not only a keen but very competitive golfer and I am confident she will be a great addition to Midlothian offering her support and assisting with general business of Midlothian. In addition to her passion for golf, Isla is a business owner and has been running her own leadership development consultancy (Action Provocateurs) since 2011 following a successful corporate career. She is married to Oliver, who is currently Turnhouse Club Captain and lives in Dunfermline. We have had several discussions with Isla about the challenges of taking on the Vice Captain role 4 months into the second year of an otherwise 2 year appointment. Isla is delighted to have been asked and is enthusiastic about having the opportunity to take on this responsibility.

I’m sure the Membership will agree, Isla is not only a great choice for this role and we are delighted she accepted to get involved at this time of the Vice Captain appointment and welcome her onto the Midlothian Committee. I know I am looking forward to working with Isla for the remainder of my term.

A few words from Gail –
‘As the problems I have been having with my back over the last 9 months have been proving very slow to resolve I did not feel confident of being fit enough to take over as Captain at the end of year. I felt whoever was to take over needed the season to learn the ropes before taking over as Captain in November and it would not be fair to them or the Association if I had to withdraw at the end of the season at short notice. I advised Louise therefore about a month ago that I felt I should step down as soon as she could find someone to takeover. I am very sorry to resign. I have really enjoyed working with Louise and the rest of the Committee and being involved with the County Squad and all the Junior events and indeed with all our members. Its great that Louise has found Isla to take over as Vice Captain and I wish her every success.’
