I am delighted to inform you Committee has approved to co-opt Wendy Nicholson as Vice – Captain until the November 2024 AGM, at which point she may consider to stand for the Vice-Captain Official role. During the next 5 months, Wendy will be working with me and the Officials on a number of projects looking at ways to help manage the growing administration and future challenges of the Association, in addition to attending the Jamboree this year and joining the selection committee.
For those of you that don’t know Wendy:
Wendy plays at Baberton and has played for MCLGA County for 19 years, and been part of the winning Scottish County final team a record of 5 times. Wendy has gained caps for Scotland as a Vet, and also held the post of Selector and been a club representative in recent years.

In addition, to adding Wendy to the group of Officials, our Committee, which comprises the six Officials and our Club representatives, have been reviewing how we share the workload of our associations administration and communication to our members.
Being one of the largest Counties is something we are all very proud of, but with our size comes increased volumes of engagement around membership, meetings and events hosted by MCLGA. As such Committee has approved to split the role of Honorary Secretary into two Official roles.
Maureen Joyce (Turnhouse) continues as Membership Secretary and Mags Hobbins (Newbattle) becomes and Official as Competition Secretary. I am sure you will all agree, both roles are sizeable, so splitting them shares the load more evenly.
The split means that, Maureen looks after membership, enquiries, secretariat for our Committee meetings, arranges our AGM and prizegiving including the trophy collection and engraving and maintains all of our IT platforms – such as the website, VMS, and our email system.
Mags looks after our competitions, so setting up our meetings, knockouts, 5 – a side and Champion of Champion events, managing the draws, the registration desk and results entry – with help from our Club reps and our Competition committee (Fiona Findlay and Coleen Derighetti).
