2023 Scottish Senior Women’s Open Champion for 3rd year running!

Karen Ferguson-Snedden (Mortonhall) becomes Scottish Senior Women’s Open Champion for the third year running in a tight final at Aboyne GC on Sunday, which finished on the 17th hole.

Karen beat fellow Scot, Ruth Hunter following a hard fought battle in the semi-final against last year’s finalist, Australia’s, Sue Wooster, clinching the win on the 18th!

Congratulations must also go to all the Midlothian players who qualified for the Senior Women’s Matchplay and Senior Women’s Net Matchplay, after two qualifying rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Four Midlothian players were in the top 12 qualifiers after the two rounds – second top qualifier was Hilary Laughland (Mortonhall) who was 4 over, 6th qualifier was Caroline Steedman (Murrayfield) 7 over, 10th was Karen Ferguson-Sneddon at 8 over and 12th was Ailsa Cackett (Broomieknowe) 10 over. Great performance well done to you all! The top qualifier was Australia’sΒ Nadine Gole who shot 3 under!

Matchplay: Hilary Laughland, Ailsa Cackett, Caroline Steedman and Karen.

Hilary and Karen had a hard fought match against each other in Round 2 with Karen emerging winner 2&1. Caroline and Ailsa fought hard in their first round matches but unfortunately lost 3&2 and 1 down on 19th respectively.

Net Matchplay: Congratulations to Liz Calder (Turnhouse) for finishing top qualifier of the Net Medal shooting two very impressive rounds of net 68 and 66! Also qualifying were Morag Wardrop (Turnhouse), Sal Shepherd (Craigmillar Park), Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park) and Jaci Moriarty (Lochend).

Morag, Sal, Karen and Jaci all had very close matches but lost out in Round 1 with Liz progressing to the semi-finals where she was unfortunately beaten 3&2 by Linda Mair. Great achievement Liz, well done 🀩.

Congratulations to Christine Milroy (Loudoun Gowf) who had a hole in one on the 14th, pictured here with Midlothian’s Jaci Moriarty.
