The Inter County Matches got underway this morning in extremely windy conditions at Gullane following a similarly tough practice round on Sunday afternoon π¨π¨π¨π¨. Plenty sunscreen was still needed to protect our faces from wind burn π₯
Midlothian was drawn against last year’s winners Fife in the first of their three matches in a bid to lift the trophy on Wednesday night and secure a place in the County Finals in September at Hilton Park GC.
County Champion, Kate McIntosh and Scottish Women’s Amateur Finalist, Rachael Livingstone, led the way against Evanna Hynd and Hannah Braidwood, bringing in our first point with a convincing 7&5 win. Freya Constable, who had returned from the USA for summer, and Molly Nicholson, who was making her debut for the County, took on the young pairing of Eilidh Henderson and Lucy Renton whose match was nip and tuck but a great birdie at 17 and 18 clinched the match 1up for our second point. Β Scottish Senior’s Champion, Karen Ferguson-Snedden Β and fellow Mortonhall player, Hilary Laughland delivered a good win against Karin Sharp and Katie Malcolm, winning 5&4.
Morning result: 3-0
We came out ready for the afternoon singles, with young Megan Fallon making her debut for the County. Everyone battled hard in very touch conditions with some impressive golf on show, which resulted in us securing 4 of the 6 matches:
Kate McIntosh lost 3&2 to Eilidh Henderson
Rachael Livingstone lost 2down to Evannah Hynd
Freya Constable won 2&1 to Brogan Clark
Megan Fallon won 6&5 to Lorraine Morrow
Hilary Laughland won 5&3 to Hannah Braidwood
Karen Marshall won 2&1 to Lucy Renton
Afternoon Result: 4-2
