It was our turn to host our second warm up match of the season against County Finals winners, Lanarkshire County on Sunday 2 April at Baberton GC.
We had the perfect conditions for the match – reasonably mild with no wind. Temperatures dropped later in the match and then the sunshine came out and we had glorious blue skies ☀️Spring has sprung 🐣🌼
A Team of 10 played, with 4 foursomes playing off scratch and the Junior foursome off handicap. Always great to have the junior girls playing and gaining County match experience and this year the girls were giving 11 shots in their match. Both Lucy and Rita played well but the shot difference presented an uphill battle.
Team Midlothian was:
Match 1: Rachael Livingstone & Ailsa Cackett
Match 2: Nicky Graham & Louise Fraser
Match 3: Anne Hanson & Caroline Steedman
Match 4: Emma Morrison & Grace Cannon
Junior Match: Lucy Fraser & Rita Murphy
All of the matches were played in good spirits.
The first three matches were nip and tuck and resulted in two halves and a loss on the 18th. Overall, Lanarkshire emerged as the winners with a 3/2 match result. Well done Team Lanarkshire 👏👏
Many thanks to Captain Anne Mungall and the Lanarkshire Team for a great match.
Grateful thanks go to all the team at Baberton GC for supporting County golf and providing courtesy of the course. The course itself was presented well for the time of year after a challenging wet winter. Thanks also to the caterers for providing a very welcome, and delicious, bowl of warm soup, and sandwiches.
Thank you also to President, Margaret Fergusson for her support as starter for the matches and walking round and cheering us on.
We wish the Lanarkshire Team success for their Inter County Matches in June and a great 2023 season, and look forward to returning to the County for next year’s match.
Overall result: 3-2 win for Lanarkshire with individual match results as follows:
Our next match is against Scottish Veteran Ladies on Sunday 14 May at The Royal Burgess.
