What a beautiful day for 0ur Commonwealth Spoons at Craigmillar Park and lovely to see the players in more summer golf attire.  The weather was super from start to finish, although over tops were still required at some points when the sun disappeared behind the clouds! 🥶

This competition is run as a qualifying competition for the Scottish Final in August at Crieff Golf Club, which is organised by SGL. 10% of the field qualify to compete in the Finals for the Commonwealth Spoons donated by the Australian Ladies’ Golf Union.  As we had 57 couples playing, the top 6 with the best nett scores will go forward to play.

The course was looking in super condition with the greens running smoothly and some great scores were returned. As always, the views around Edinburgh from the course are wonderful.

We had a bit of a hiccup at the start of the competition, as it was appearing as a better ball stableford on the Scottish Golf App, rather than the intended foursomes.  This caused a lot of confusion for players and officials and resulted in challenges inputting scores into the App.  The issue was a slight glitch in the VMS system which we managed to rectify with the help of Lochend’s Fiona Finlay and our Secretary, Angela Hughes and SGL Non-Exec Director, Caroline Mansley working this through with Scottish Golf, who responded very quickly once the issue was identified. Apologies to all our players – especially those off first when there was not an official present to support. Thank you for your patience. Best laid plans…. Every day is a school day! 😳

We are very grateful to Craigmillar Park Club for accommodating us today and to the standard of the Course kept by the greenkeepers. Special mention to Professional, Alan Wright for supporting our early ladies and to Rhiannon, who worked tirelessly behind the bar from start to finish – she was still looking after us when we came in after 8pm – to ensure we were all fed and watered.

Grateful thanks to our Midlothian officials – Secretary, Angela and President, Sheila Stuart for your support.  All the volunteers work hard behind the scenes leading up to the event and on the day helping players ‘checking in’, return their scores and general queries. 🤩🤩
