Midlothian County win first two placings in the Commonwealth Spoons Finals at Pollock GC in Glasgow today.
The 18 hole stroke play foursomes qualifying event was held at Liberton Golf Club on Monday 13th May. Valerie Mackenzie and Margaret Fergusson from Murrayfield came 4th at Liberton and went on to represent Midlothian along with 6 other couples from Midlothian. A total of 82 couples played at Pollock GC in an 18 hole stroke play foursomes format with half combined handicap allowance. It would be survival of the fittest as the conditions were extremely wet and windy for the players.
Valerie and Margaret were clear winners with 85 – 10.5, net 74.5. Anne Brown and Kay Cuthbertson from Deer Park were second with 96 – 19.5, net 76.5 better inward half over Aberdeenshire couple P Halliwell and Gillian MacKenzie.
Congratulations to Valerie and Margaret winning the Australian Spoons, donated by the Australian Ladies Golf Union, for one year.
