The 105th AGM was held at Bruntsfield Links Golf Society last night, the membership in attendance  joined me in thanking both Margaret Fergusson who stood down as President having completed her 2 year term, and also Mags Hobbins, our Competition Secretary is moving back to Ireland.

I am delighted to advise that Fiona de Vries was duly elected as MCLGA President.  Fiona was recognised for her outstanding achievements for Midlothian and Scottish golf over 40+ years and awarded Honorary membership in 2018.  An outstanding golfing and business career includes  Edinburgh Girls Champion (1972/73) , first selected to play for Scotland in Girls Home International Matches (1974),  a regular member of Baberton 5 a-side team from 70s to 2019, MCLGA County Team Player for many years from1973 – and still picked as reserve in 2005! Count Champion in 1984 & 1985 & Runner up 1989 & 2003, Scotland Team Captain @ Girls Home International Matches 2000 & 2001, European Junior Lady Team Championships 2002, European Ladies Team Championships 2009, also, Senior Home Internationals 2019 – 25, Senior European Team Championships 2019 – 25,, SVLGA Team 2019 – 23. Represented Scotland at Senior Ladies Home International Matches from 2006 – 2017 (excluding 2011), Winning Scotland Team in 2009  &  Most Valuable Player in 2008 & 2009. Represented Scotland at European Senior Ladies Team Championships between 2006 -17. Played Scottish Senior Championships from 2006 – 2017 (except 2011) & Winner x 3 Scottish Senior Match Play Championship in 2006/ 2010/2017, Scottish Senior Stroke Play Winner, Played British Seniors Championship 2006 – 2018 (except 11,), SVLGA Scottish Champion Twice., SVLGA Midland Division Champion 5 times, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2015 & 2017. and little known fact – represented Scotland at World Senior Curling Championships in Minnesota in 2011!

 

Nicky Graham was elected as MCLGA Secretary , Nicky, she is a returner to golf, joining Baberton during Covid in June 2020 and MCLGA in 2021. During 2021 she played in the winning teams at both the Interclub and Morison Millar. Making good progress on her handicap, she was invited to join the county squad for 2023, playing in the winning team at County Finals in 2023, and travelling reserve for the winning team at Finals in 2024. She has played in the winning Baberton 5-asides team in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and has led the club’s initiative during 2023 and 2024 to increase its women membership. When she isn’t golfing, Nicky is a full-time IT Audit Manager in one of Edinburgh’s financial firms.

Wendy Nicholson was elected as MCLGA Vice-Captain, Wendy had been co-opted into this role since the summer.  Similarly, Sara Buchannan , also co-opted earlier this year, was elected as MCLGA TreasurerMaureen Joyce was elected as MCLGA Competitions Secretary, a new Official role approved by resolution, the membership at the meeting.
