Day 2 and our opponents were Fife, possibly our toughest opponents.  Arriving at the course with the threat of rain the team headed into the opening foursomes.  Kate McIntosh and Megan Fallon out first, followed by Rachael Livingstone and Louise Fraser and Molly Nicholson with Freya Constable.  At the turn the clouds grew darker and soon the rain came.  Players and spectators alike taking cover under brollies. The opening pair traded holes with Fife eventually losing 2&1, the next two pairs winning 3&2 after our final pairing winning with a resounding 6&4.  Heading into lunch with 2 to 1 points secured the team were buoyed by extra muffins and tiffin ready for afternoon singles.

Some tough opponents in the singles draw but the team were ready for action.

Leading off Louise Fraser was never down eventually winning 2&1.  Other matches ebbed and flowed behind her.  Rachael Livingstone particularly against Gillian Paton.  Next to secure a point was Caroline Steedman with a resounding 5&3.  Freya Constable against Elaine Moffat was pushed all the way into the back nine.  Rachael Livingstone was now 1-up going down the last. Molly Nicholson despite a 2 on the 11th succumbed at the 16th 3&2. Hilary Laughland-Hogg steadily worked her way to a dormy position.  Rachael then halved the last to secure the victory for Midlothian.  All eyes turned to Hilary and Freya.  Hilary was heading down the 17th as Freya arrived at the 16th green.  Hilary halved the 17th to secure a 2&1. Freya was now heading for the 18th 1up.  A fabulous approach shot in 2 gave her opponent much to do and she secured the win 2up.

Midlothian winning the day against Fife 7&2. Turning to the other county results Stirling & Clackmannanshire v East Lothian was tied 4.5 – 4.5.  Midlothian lead the table with 4 pts to Fife 2 pts and S&C and East Lothian 1pt.  It is still all to play for tomorrow as Midlothian take on East Lothian and Fife take on S&C.

Thanks go to the caddies for the day, Gail Mathieson, Letty McKinnon, Moyra Statham, Jane MacDonald, Catherine Wilkie, Jacky Burnett, Yvonne Wilson, Gill Petrie, Karen Marshall, Barbara McQuillan and Sandra Hennessy and all who came to support.

Now for Michaela and mini-Mac news – Both have been rather noticeable by their absence today, not sure their woolly jumpers are best suited to the morning rain and the afternoon was spent drying out on various spectator buggies.  Tomorrow is to be dry and they will be out supporting the team watch for the Facebook updates.
